Get up girl a sun is running the world is one of Ugo Rondinone’s cast olive tree sculptures. The olive tree, sourced from a field near to where his parents were born in the Basilicata region in the south of Italy and over 2,000 years old, was initially cast on-site in rubber, before the sculpture’s final materialisation in aluminium and white enamel. The artist has said that he conceives his olive trees as ‘natural sculptures’ and by placing these sculptures outdoors in an urban location continues his examination into concepts of time and displacement, and the relationship between natural and artificial environments.
